Green Smoothie Recipe

We’ve all heard that nutrition is a big factor in our health.  There is even a Chinese proverb that states “He that takes medicine and neglects diet wastes the skills of the physician.”  Unfortunately, the rise in availability of quick and simple processed foods has led to an increase in chronic health conditions.  That being said, simply changing ones eating habits can have profound effects on pain and energy levels.

One of the easiest changes to make is to introduce more whole foods, such as leafy greens, fruits, and vegetables, into the diet on a regular basis.  In order to accomplish that goal, I often recommend green smoothies to my patients.  They’re an easy, cheap, and excellent (not to mention tasty) way to get vitamins and nutrients from various food groups all at once.  Here’s my favorite recipe:

4 frozen strawberries

4 frozen peach slices

1 banana

1 cup raw spinach

1 Tbsp milled flax seed

1 cup vanilla almond milk

Add all ingredients into a blender and blend away!

The great thing about this recipe is that it can be changed to suit your preferences or mood.

Want to add in pineapple?  Go ahead.

Don’t like banana? Take it out.

Feeling adventerous?  Substitute kale for the spinach.

Craving more veggies?  Add diced carrots.

Need to balance out the cold (per your friendly local acupuncturist)? Add ginger.

The possibilities are endless!

Now, go get a jumpstart on healthy living and enjoy that smoothie!
